With the 2023 New Year celebrations over and done with, there is another important date on the
calendar coming up at the end of January. The Lunar New Year falls on January 22, and this year
is the “Year of the Rabbit” – one of 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac, a symbol of prosperity and
peace.
The Lunar New Year provides a perfect occasion for Nova Scotia’s Chinese communities to
gather and celebrates the commencement of the new Lunar year. Like all New Year observances
in cultures and countries worldwide, Lunar New Year is a festival that fulfilled with great hope
and aspirations for the coming year. The Chinese Society of Nova Scotia wishes you and your
families good health, happiness, and prosperity.
As usual, the Chinese community will celebrate the festival with guests, families, and friends at
our annual Chinese New Year Banquet, which will be held on February 4th, 2023, Saturday,
at 6:00 PM, in the Schooner Room, Casino Nova Scotia, 1983 Upper Water Street, Halifax,
Nova Scotia, B3J 3Y5.
We are expecting more than three hundred guests, including Nova Scotia government officials,
business leaders, and local residents, to join us in the celebration of the Chinese New Year of the
Rabbit. The dress code for the event is Black Tie Optional. The banquet program features
greetings by distinguished guests, dinner and cultural performance.
