After concluding the festivities of the 2024 New Year, there is an upcoming significant date on the calendar in early February. Specifically, the Lunar New Year, falling on February 10th, marks the beginning of the "Year of the Dragon" – one of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac symbolizing good luck, strength, and health.
This auspicious occasion provides an ideal opportunity for Nova Scotia's Chinese communities to come together and celebrate the commencement of the new Lunar year. Similar to New Year observances around the world, the Lunar New Year is a festival filled with hope and aspirations for the year ahead. The Chinese Society of Nova Scotia extends its warm wishes for good health, happiness, and prosperity to you and your families.
Traditionally, the Chinese community gathers with guests, families, and friends at our annual Chinese New Year Banquet. This year's banquet is scheduled for Saturday, February 17th, 2024, at 6:00 PM in the Schooner Room at Casino Nova Scotia, located at 1983 Upper Water Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia, B3J 3Y5.
We anticipate the participation of over three hundred guests, including government officials from Nova Scotia, business leaders, and local residents, all coming together to celebrate the Chinese New Year of the Dragon. The event's dress code is Black Tie Optional, and the banquet program will include greetings by distinguished guests, dinner, and cultural performances.
